3 Reasons Why You Should Upgrade Your Bike Bolts to Titanium Bolts

For serious cyclists, every detail matters, yet one often-overlooked upgrade can make a surprising difference: your bolts.

Whether you're bombing down mountain trails, racing crits, or just completing a social ride, titanium bolts offer the perfect combination of strength, weight savings, durability and quality.

Still riding on steel bolts? Here are 3 reasons why it's time to change that:

1. Lighter Than Steel - Without Sacrificing Strength

Titanium bolts weigh up to 50% less than standard steel bolts, and with over 60 parts in a bike, including the drivetrain, you could stand to shave a few hundred grams off your bike!

Weight Comparison between stock bike parts and titanium bike parts

Above: Weight comparison between stock parts and our titanium parts.

This weight reduction is possible due to the use of Grade 5 Titanium in our products.

Grade 5 titanium is a titanium alloy that consists of 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (maximum) iron, 0.2% (maximum) oxygen, with the remainder being titanium.

It has an excellent combination of high strength, low weight, excellent corrosion resistance and good machinability for precision parts.

These characteristics make Grade 5 Titanium an excellent material choice for your bicycle parts!

2. Rust-proof - Ride Rain or Shine

Rusty bike bolts

I'm sure you are familiar with the sight of rusted bolts, or even worse, bolts so rusted they seize up and you're unable to remove them!

Say goodbye to that with our titanium bolts! Above is a recent image of my 4-year-old custom commuter bike kitted with Ti-Parts titanium bolts that have seen rain, sun and high humidity. It still looks as good as day one!

Made with inherently corrosion-resistant titanium, our bolts are immune to rust—ideal for all-weather rides, humid environments, and salty coastal air. Pretty much anywhere in the world :)

3. PVD Coated – Tougher, Lasting Colours

Most of us have had the experience of using a hex tool on a black-coloured bolt, and the coating is scraped off after you take the tool out!

Unlike traditional electroplated finishes, our bolts are enhanced with a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating, which is a premium treatment that delivers:

- Better wear resistance

- Colours that resist fading over time

With PVD coating, you can confidently use the bolt knowing that the coating will not wear off, and that the colours on the bolts will maintain their shine over the years, just like the ones on my bike above!

So there you have it! 3 reasons why you should upgrade your bike bolts to titanium bolts.

In my humble opinion, they are very much a worthwhile investment for your bike. You never have to worry about corroded and seized bolts, they last almost forever, save weight and add that extra touch of refinement to your ride :)
