CNC Cr-Mo steel + 7075 aluminium hybrid (Shimano HG) | Full CNC Cr-Mo Steel (XDR) | 12-speed | JIS certified | Made in Taiwan

    Shimano HG 11-36T ~182g | SRAM XDR 10-36T ~255g

The HG version pairs a Cr-Mo steel monoblock on the smaller cogs with 7075 aluminium on the four largest, bringing total weight down to ~182g while keeping steel where chain wear actually matters.

The XDR version runs a full Cr-Mo steel monoblock throughout, sitting at ~255g with maximum durability as the priority.

Both are CNC-machined in Taiwan, JIS certified, and designed for riders who want a cassette that outlasts the alternatives without giving up weight savings where they count.

    The Material Logic

The largest cogs are used primarily for climbing at lower torque and cadence, and see significantly less wear per hour of riding. 7075 aluminium makes sense here: lighter without the durability compromise you'd see if the whole cassette were alloy.

The smaller cogs made of steel maintain the rigidity and durability required due to the smaller size.

The XDR monoblock keeps full steel throughout. Suited for riders who prioritise maximum longevity and consistent shifting performance over the life of the cassette.

    Features

    Cr-Mo Steel Monoblock Construction

The steel portion of both versions is CNC-machined from a single block of Cr-Mo steel - no joints, no rivets, no weak points.

Monoblock construction maintains perfect gear alignment under load and resists the wear that modular cassettes show at rivet points over time.

7075 Aluminium Large Cogs (Shimano HG Version)

The four largest cogs on the HG version are 7075 aluminium, one of the highest-strength aluminium alloys available.

On the large cogs, the larger area allows the use of aluminium for gainful weight savings while having sufficient area for rigidity.

    Anti-Corrosion Multi-Layer Coating

The steel cogs are treated with a multi-layer anti-corrosion coating that protects against sweat, humidity, and road debris.

Keeps the cassette shifting cleanly and looking clean far longer than uncoated steel.

    Lightweight Inertia Reduction

A lighter cassette changes how your drivetrain behaves at race speeds, not just on the scale.

At high speed, a heavier cassette carries more rotational inertia. When you stop pedalling suddenly in a sprint finish or on a fast descent, the cassette keeps spinning forward and pushes the chain slack toward the front.

At ~182g (HG) and ~255g (XDR), both FLYMaster versions reduce that flywheel effect compared to stock cassettes, keeping chain tension more stable when power is cut suddenly.

How It Compares - Shimano HG 12-Speed

    Cassette Ratio Weight Notes
Samuel FLYMaster HG (New) 11-36T ~182g Steel monoblock + 7075 alu hybrid
    Shimano Dura-Ace R9200 11-34T 253g 71g heavier, narrower range
    Shimano Ultegra R8100 11-34T 345g 163g heavier, narrower range

FLYMaster HG also offers a wider 11-36T gear range vs the 11-34T on both Dura-Ace and Ultegra, useful for climbing without the weight penalty.

How It Compares - SRAM XDR 12-Speed

    Cassette Ratio Weight Notes
Samuel FLYMaster XDR 10-36T 255g Full Cr-Mo steel monoblock
SRAM Red XG-1290 10-36T 233g 22g lighter, although shorter lifespan, higher price
SRAM Force XG-1270 10-36T 303g 48g heavier than FLYMaster XDR
