The Brakco Airpads address the problems that organic disc pads typically struggle with: braking performance and noise in the wet, and braking performance over long descents.
The solution to the first problem is compound-based. Brakco uses their own Tranquila compound, which provides a much better grip in wet conditions, while also absorbing vibration to suppress the stick-and-slip behaviour which causes brake squeal.
The solution to the second problem is in the construction. It uses a double hollow venting wall backplate coated in graphene that actively pulls heat away from the friction compound and dissipates it before it reaches the caliper.
While Tranquila suppresses noise, some light noise when the pads are wet is normal and does not indicate a performance issue. After a proper bed-in, noise control in dry conditions is very good.
Features
Graphene-Coated Honeycomb Venting Backplate
The backplate uses a hollow venting wall structure shaped into a honeycomb fin pattern. The fins increase the effective heat dissipation surface area and pull heat upwards and away. The result is lower operating temperature at the caliper.
Tranquila Compound: Dry, Wet, and Quiet
The Tranquila compound, developed by Brakco specifically for noise reduction and performance in the wet. By absorbing vibration at the contact surface, it significantly reduces the stick-and-slip phenomenon that generates brake squeal. Dry braking performance is strong, wet performance is reliable, and quietness is rated high on Brakco's own compound testing scale, though some light noise when the pads are saturated is normal behaviour for any organic pad and is not a sign of a defect.
Bed-In Required
Like all organic pads, the Airpads require a proper bed-in before performance and noise behaviour settle. A standard bed-in procedure of around 15 moderate stops from 30km/h without coming to a complete stop is recommended before the first serious descent.
