About Hotcheck

Hotcheck makes titanium bike parts designed around real use, not spec sheet numbers. The brand's designer has worked as a machinist, a racer and a mechanic, so every part starts with one question: how can this be better than the OEM version?

Parts are made from S-grade titanium alloy on CNC lathes and machining centers, with tight tolerances wherever parts have to fit together. Performance comes first. Weight, finish and price follow from that.

S-grade Titanium | Polished Finish | 33g only

Made with specialised-grade titanium alloy sourced from one of the leading aerospace-grade titanium manufacturers in the world.

Coming in at a fraction of the weight of a regular thru-axle, this piece adds extra bling to your ride without compromising toughness and durability due to specialised titanium alloys that provide excellent yield strength and fatigue resistance.

The axle has a native 8mm hex drive, and an 8 to 6 adapter is fitted at the factory. That lets you use a standard 6mm hex key day to day, or remove the adapter and use an 8mm key.

--------------------------

Specifications

Material S-grade titanium alloy
Fits Specialized SL8 and SL9, front and rear
Axle standard Thru axle, 1.0 pitch thread
Tool drive 8mm hex (native), 6mm hex with the supplied 8 to 6 adapter
Recommended torque 10 Nm
Tightening direction Clockwise
Intended use Road and gravel on paved surfaces

--------------------------

Compatibility

For Specialized Tarmac SL9 and SL8 only.

Frame and fork must use a 1.0 pitch thread. Forcing the axle into a frame with different thread pitch can damage the parts.

--------------------------

What's Included

  • 1x front titanium thru-axle
  • 1x rear titanium thru-axle
  • 2x titanium thru axle washers for Specialized
  • 2x titanium 8mm to 6mm tool adapters
  • 2x rubber seal rings to stop washers falling off when the axle is removed.

--------------------------

Installation and Care

These axles hold your wheels in the frame. Incorrect installation can cause the wheel to come loose, damage the parts or cause failure, so we recommend installation and setup by a qualified mechanic with proper tools.

  • For everyday use, use a 6mm hex key with the fitted adapter
  • For an 8mm key, push the adapter out from the thread end with a cylindrical object
  • Apply a suitable amount of grease to the axle thread, such as Shimano grease. Interface grease is not recommended
  • Tighten clockwise to 10 N·m with a torque wrench
  • After installing, re-check torque, check the wheel for play, spin the front and rear wheels, and test the brakes
  • Thread the axle back into the frame or fork each time you remove a wheel, so it does not get lost, and always check the torque when you refit it
  • After any crash that hits the frame or rear wheel, inspect the axle fully even if it looks undamaged

If anything feels wrong during first installation or use, stop immediately and contact your place of purchase or Hotcheck customer service. Do not force the parts on or off, and do not keep using the product.

Not for: downhill, enduro, dirt jumps, freeride, e-bike conversions, or any use beyond road and gravel on paved surfaces.

Hotcheck 2Y Thru Axle Warranty

HOTCHECK covers this product for 2 years from the original purchase date. If the axle shows visible structural breakage or twisting while correctly installed and used in normal riding, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge.

Not covered:

  • Improper installation, including not tightening to the recommended 10 N·m (over torquing can make the thread bind and hard to remove, and under torquing can cause loosening)
  • Crashes, impacts or abnormal external force, or overloading such as downhill use or dirt jumps
  • Use on any frame other than the Specialized SL8 and SL9, or forcing the axle into a frame whose thread is not 1.0 pitch
  • Hex socket wear marks from normal installation and removal, and surface scratches
  • Modifications such as cutting, drilling, grinding, polishing, anodizing or painting
  • Products without valid proof of purchase or bought from unofficial channels

To make a claim: stop using the product and contact us. Provide photos of the product, close-ups of the problem area and proof of purchase.
